First Ride Along Morning all! Sorry I missed the update yesterday but I was on the road with one of our techs. Overall, I had a really good day. I did blow up on the lady in our rental office because the parking spaces for sale are only for boats and RVs, NOT cars. Personally, I don't see why it matters as the Jag would be under a cover, not disturbing anyone, but its their damn rules, not mine. Dan said not to worry about it. He'll sell the white S-10 and use the Jag until the red truck is back up. It should be done sometime these next couple of weeks as we want to go to the Dream Cruise this year. (Me especially, as I've never been.) So, short of answering the insurance questions on the Jag, everything is settling out pretty well. In good time too as I'm about 1000 miles over that 3000 mile oil change, and the steering column bearings are whining like hell. I just need it to make it through today. If it can do that for me, I'll be happy. The ride along was fun too. It was hellish out, so we did mostly office buildings. Most of the day was spent doing monthly maintenance, checking traps, replacing glue boards and the like. I got to see several varieties of spiders, all dead, and lay down some ant baits. We checked one exterior rodent bait box, but the blocks were still good so we didn't have to do anything. Fortunately, we never saw any dead rodents, though I'm sure I'll see at least one before the training is over. Overall, it was a light and easy day and we finished around 3pm so I could face the freeway home. (Of course, I got lost and couldn't find 696. All the 75 signs kept throwing me off. Eventually someone at a Mobil station told me that I'd hit 696 if I took 75 South, and it actually worked. I was VERY glad as I get lost fairly easily.) The highlight of the day was the wasp job. We got to visit a Saab dealership and take out 3-4 nests. Part of the building had this ridged material that left a lot of free space for wasps to build their nests. All the men there claimed they weren't having a problem with them, but when we asked the women in the office they pointed out several nests. So, we went back to the truck and my co worker got his pole. Normally, they can be outfitted to spray, but this one wasn't. He told me they were paper wasps, very non agressive, so all we had to do was knock the nests down and throw them away. I know it sounds dangerous, but it worked! I was a little scared about the wasps coming out, but they were really mellow for being rather pissed. The ones near the roof would swarm out and in again, trying to figure out what had happened to their nest. We threw them in the trash, and he told me they'd rebuild another one, but they weren't coming after us after the initial investigation of the pole. So, they really weren't dangerous. The ones confined in this lip in the back of the building were a little scarier, they came right out to check us out, but my coworker did a fine job with them too. Unfortunately, the big stick wouldn't fit under that lip, so we had to find a smaller stick to do the job. Once we got one that was long enough for his satisfaction, he went over, riled them up, and the nest dropped out. He waited a minute before going back to get it, as they were swarming around. After they all decided to dart back under the lip and start rebuilding, we grabbed the nest and left them alone. Nobody got stung, so I considered it a good job. Besides, the slight excitement was pretty fun. I also learned NEVER to do this with yellowjackets or hornets. They're not as laid back so they won't let you come close enough to just destroy their nests. They're the ones that need the applications. Anyway, tired of writing. Pray for my car! Daphne |
