Themed McDonalds' a bad trend? In general, life is still on its insane downslide, but I'm ignoring it. Mostly, I'm just trying not to cry in front of my bosses these days. I hate crying. I only do it when I'm really stressed and can't avoid it, which has been this past week. My usual boss has tried to talk me out of worrying about my lack of sales in that department by reminding me that those goals were set before they knew the decorating division was going to be using me full time for their season. So, they're not expecting miracles on that front, but I still feel shitty for not being able to meet the mark. I'm also extremely scared that I won't be able to make up the lost sales over the next few months. The good thing is that I've got some decent commission coming, however, which should pay off the house repairs and my GPS device if I'm lucky. The shitty thing is that once this decorating gig dies down, pest control sales will completely drop until the second week of January because everyone important is on vacation or doesn't want to deal with sales reps over the holidays. Of course, I still have to come in and try to do business because I don't have any vacation time, unlike my coworkers. Maybe they'll have pity on me and let me do some office work instead of trying to cold call for those few weeks. Anyway, has anyone else noticed all these theme McDonald's in Michigan? I don't know if this is universal or not, but I've been eating at quite a few fast food places lately and most McDs out here have a theme. (I've recently stopped eating at McDs, however, because the Monopoly game has ended and I only really like one of their combo options.) Some of the themes make sense, like the East Lansing one being decked out in State insignia, but some are totally random, like the aviation one in Farmington. So far, I've seen the following decorating attempts: football/sports, State support, aviation (model planes included), a couple of 50s ones, and a log cabin concept. Granted, I haven't been deliberately touring these joints, but I haven't found a normal non-theme McDonald's in a long time. I think Brighton, my hometown one, might be normal, but I can't be sure. Its been a long time since I set foot in there, and they've probably remodeled since then. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced these wacky attempts at themed McDonalds' and/or if this is part of their new marketing scheme. I'm sure there has to be a few untouched ones out there somewhere, but I haven't run into one in a while. If my small audience wants, Dan has suggested that I start officially touring them snapping some pics for my readers, though I'm not sure if its that big of a deal. I will, however, get a Flickr account soon to archive my ongoing project of documenting funny signs. Those need a home and a place for feedback. I'll post the link when I get it going. Hey, at least I'm trying to post some decent content. Daphne |
