Getting a Little Worse It seems my Gold membership has run out on Diaryland again. and I'm back in that quandry about moving the blog somewhere more hospitible. Right now, I'm not finding a lot of writers on good old Diaryland, though I am making some interesting acquaintences through blogspot. I'm old fashioned though. I don't like moving. Diaryland does a good job with tech support, hosting, and general maintence, and I'll admit I've been lax on downloading a backup copy of the blog. (I still need to backup my hard drive files!) I also don't know how to move the entire archives without losing them, so changing hosts scares me a little there. I am unsure if I am going to pay for GOld membership again, however, as I only use two functions from it: image hosting and the stats. The stats are useful to me, fun to look at, and it is nice to see when I get a crosslink from someone that generates a lot of hits. I like that! It gets me reading other people's stuff, which is good, but lately there haven't been many people wandering by from anywhere new so I might not need it anymore. (I might also be able to get away with a site tracker program from somewhere else.) As for the image hosting, that's about all I pay Diaryland for, and I haven't been using that much lately either. I'll admit I like uploading silly pics and being able to have a place to image link on other sites, but it isn't really pressing. I could live without it, though it will be hard not to check for stats every morning. We'll see how it goes. If I can decide on moving, or can keep up the content without paying, I'll do it though I do like the hometown feeling Diaryland once generated throughout its small site. As you can tell, there's really no content worth supporting these days. Sales and the occasional bout of smut...whooo... Speaking of which, I was informed yesterday that the guy who got my computer is the office fink. My boss and my coworker gave me the heads up yesterday to watch what I say around him because he's notorious about narcing people out. Greeaaat. Of course, this is the same guy I told that I have personal files on my machine under the old ID. Normally, I wouldn't worry about it, but I realized that my intro column for Sexophile is on there, which isn't good. I know that one column confesses a good deal of my freakiness, and I think even includes the slight XXX background. Now, I'm not exactly sure if I took it off myself or not, or if they happened to reformat the hard drive before repoing it, both of which would fix my problem. I've been tempted to come in early, boot the machine under my old login, if possible, and see what I can see. If the files are there, I'd trash them. If not, at least I could breathe a sigh of relief. Unfortunately, my boss came in with me this morning so I wasn't able to attempt that, but I might give it a shot if the office gets noisy enough. Part of me isn't really worried, however, as the worst case scenario is that the snitch finks on me and I have to defend myself to all the bosses. If that happens, it will suck, but I can define it as past work and bring up my present hard work and contributions, which should speak for themselves. Sales already knows I'm pretty freaky, so if was any other column I wouldn't even worry, but the rest of the office might not be able to stomach my past. I'm just hoping I was smart on Monday and trashed everything while I had the chance. Oh well, slowly learning my lesson to always use jumpdrives and never expect any respect regarding my work space. Arrrrgghhh I hope things keep going all right. Knowing me, being stupid will be my downfall. Lets just hope it won't happen this soon, eh? Daphne |
