Barefoot Driving I learned a couple of things while attempting to drive with my new thong heels. Yes, you read that right, sandals with heels. Doesn't make sense to me, even though they are just 1" heels, but I'm working with them because they're cute. Besides, they may be one of the few good purchases I make this year. (I already lost one dress due to not noticing it was cut improperly in the store.) I should make some sometime soon, eh? Anyway, I decided to take the damn things off and try driving barefoot, despite the cold metal of my brake pedal. It went all right. Then I realized why my left hip/leg isn't as flexible or as strong as my right. DRIVING! My right hip gets a flexing work out from manipulating the two pedals and diving under the steering column while my left leg just sits in the same spot doing nada. So, I decided to see if I could exercise it by driving with both feet. The hip didn't like to flex, but I reasoned that I should keep it up for the health benefits. Well, there's only one slight problem. My left leg isn't as well trained to interpret the feedback from the brake pedal. Plus, my right leg isn't too used to just hanging in midair while I change sides of my brain to work the left. So, sometimes I use the right as brake backup when I feel like a teenager jerking the car to a stop in spurts. (As my left doesn't know how much brake is enough where yet I tend to put on too much too soon and jerk myself along to a stop. Probably funny and scary to watch.) So, long story short, if you see me driving around like some drunken nutcase it has nothing to do with drugs. I'm just trying to figure out how to drive with both feet so my granny hip rights itself. I got a feeling it won't take forever if I practice it regularly. I just hope I don't have an accident before then. I am half debating about getting a second car, thought you should know. I'm trying to get out to Lansing to see this 1967 Mercedes Benz. It sounds like a good deal, everything rebuilt except the transmission, and in fairly restorable condition. I decided I may as well live a small dream of having two beaters to restore and swap out as needed. Once they're cherry, I'll drive them from six months to two years and then sell them to someone who will appreciate them for what they are: well restored street cars. I won't sell them to collectors who already have a showroom, but to real people who want something cool to drive, like me. Ahh its nice to have a dream. We'll see what I really end up with in next few weeks/months. Daphne |
