Petition for PBS Well, its our first day without the incompetent. She was moved upstairs to lawn care where she might do better as she has experience selling that. I am a little jealous though as she doesn't have to come in until nine while the rest of us have to fight the traffic for an 8am start. Oh well, at least I get an hour to read and run errands in the middle of the day. That and eat, but I think they have to let you eat if you work an eight hour day anywhere. Only other news is this petition which I'd like to sign if you like PBS, NPR, and local public TV. Congress is trying to cut funding to these programs starting with the commercial free kids' shows like Seasame Street and Reading Rainbow. These shows really shouldn't be cut, especially with the cartoon crap we've got on TV right now, and neither should the good reporting. Most of our current media, minus direct stuff like blogs, is controlled by three major networks. I'm sure these networks edit our pictures of ourselves before ever showing it to the public. Not publishing death counts or images of the soldiers dying in Iraq is one good example of this editing. Not wanting the war to seem like another Vietnam, they decided not to televise any of the truly grusome acts, leaving us all in the dark. Accurate unbiased reporting is what we need, and public forums bring us closer to that by inviting more opinions. Also, I'd like to add, the intellectual shows on public TV give commercially supported cable networks a good run for their money, which keeps their quality high as well. Competition drives the marketplace, you know. Anyway, the petition is by Moveon.org, so its fairly genuine and I think it will see some useful desks. I'm sure politicians don't read everything they get, but its an attempt at contact. I might just get persnickity and call my local buggers. PBS is worth it to me. Please support it too, if you can.
