It was a good weekend, spk, a good weekend! Ok about time for Troma to be heading in and me to be heading out, well for a bit to the Fishbowl and the Grad for another book. Not much really. I finished my review this morning and sent it off. The opening sections are pretty bad but the ending stuff is rather good. I recommend City of Dangerous Delights to you if you want to read up about how the Ripper killings affected women at the time. Not too horrible of a read, just wish that I didn't have to take notes on it. Other than the last entry, the weekend was okay. Spk got a bit bummed out last night and I tried to cheer him up but it didn't work. I felt bad about it so I decided that maybe he just needed some space. He regretted wasting the weekend but I enjoyed just hanging out at his place and yes, it sucked that we stayed up late for little fun, and also that we couldn't do much during the little time we had together because I had to write and the internet folks just weren't about sunday night so yeah, it was a waste but not a horrible one. I got a lot of stuff done for one day and I kind of liked just taking things easy. I admit that there were conflicts over computer time, and I learned that fish isn't all it's cracked up to be, but overall I was okay with things. I kind of have my book I brought to thank for that. I get kind of nutty when I am cooped up too much inside but recently I am starting to get used to it again, getting prepped for the fall semester I guess, and I had a really good pleasure book to read at the time. Lemme look up the author for ya. I was reading Singer's Spinoza of Market Street. I have to return that too. I have a ton of shit to do today in fact and that makes me a bit miffed because I feel squashed for time. Laundry, groceries, inputting enl data, attempting to see if I can get into the law library and then see if I can copy this work Jacobsen wants me to read, rewriting part of notes because I forgot to put in chapter summaries, and finally something fun like bannerage because diaryland doesn't like my old ones. but about the book. I think I have Potok listed as one of my favorite authors on here and I should list Singer as well because they both write really well about Jews. I love Jewish writing. I know, it's crazy, but I kind of want to be Jewish. I understand the oppression and single community thing and I almost half believe that my mom is Jewish (she's adopted and doesn't want to know what she is) and I know that her adopted parents somewhere down the line were because they have a Jewish name. I love all the customs and the history behind the religion and I probably have a higher chance of converting to Judaism than most branches of Christianity, although I still like the Catholics best, so reading about Jewish life is entertaining and fun for me. I will also recommend Spinoza specifically because the last story in it is a swinging story. Yes, they eventually get punished but the husband encourages his new wife to screw this other guy and tell him all about it and he relishes, for a while anyways, hearing her sexual reports. I got really excited reading this and I wanted to point it out to spk but it was hard to relate without reading the whole story. very cool though. oh yeah, we did get two cool things done this weekend. We watched MIB the first, which neither of us has seen but thanks to the cartoon show I knew a lot about, and that was a really cool movie and we bought another book to read: Nerve, Literate Smut, a collection of erotica and some articles from the people who produce the magazine Nerve. Haven't started reading it yet but it looks interesting. Spk also exposed me to the wonders of Joe's Garage so now all the songs that I love make a bit more sense as a rock opera. Sy Borg is still my favorite character though :) That's about it for now. Got to go do some inputting and then find another book in the Grad. yea, yea, got to work too so the boss won't think that I did nothing all week but on the plus side, one more week until vacation!!!
